Writing Experience

  • In 1971, DeJohnette was hired as a student intern at Rockwell International Space Division in Downey, CA. His youthful perspectives, journalistic skills, and unique writing style invigorated employees' enthusiasm and readership in the company newsletter. Recognizing his unique talent and storytelling abilities, Richard Barton, the Director of Public Relations, entrusted him with the "Hometown News Release" campaign. DeJohnette interviewed scientists, engineers, and key personnel on the Space Shuttle Program, and his stories were published in countless local newspapers nationwide.

  • In 1981, DeJohnette began working for the Louisville Defender, a local Black-owned and operated newspaper, as a freelance reporter, covering social and political issues.  He interviewed local politicians and community leaders, and he provided editorial perspectives on growing businesses.

Personal Life

DeJohnette met his wife while working at Cox Communications on July 1, 1986, and they were married on February 14, 1992. Their first child, Darno II, was born later that year. Victor, their second child, was born in 1998. DeJohnette retired from Cox Communications on September 11, 2014, after 30 years of service. He continued teaching his students Korean karate at his dojang in Vista, CA. In 2018, he self-published his first book, "The Bell - Circles of Awareness: The Metaphysical Power of Psychic Control." This work was a composite of the knowledge he acquired from the scientists and engineers he interviewed at Rockwell. His second book, "Delusions of Grandeur: A Schizophrenic Reality," delved into the events that shaped his darker experiences. Other self-published works have followed, validating him as an author. He currently resides in Oceanside, CA, with his wife and family.
